Activity holidays

At Outlook, we expect foster carers to treat the children in their care as a member of the family. However, sometimes carers need a break without the foster child. In these instances the child can feel rejected and ask why they have been excluded.

To overcome this, and to provide foster carers with time alone, we organise activity holidays for the fostered children. These are extremely popular and take place three times a year during the Easter and summer holidays with the winter half term providing a skiing trip.

Outlook’s activity holidays are held in the UK and France. They give looked after children the chance to broaden their horizons, improve their group skills and extend their learning opportunities. The holidays are broken in to two age groups, junior and senior, and are provided at no extra cost to the placing agency. Additionally, the foster carer continues to receive the fostering allowance during this time.

These holidays build self-esteem and confidence while contributing to personal development and promoting physical, intellectual and social well-being. The adventure setting allows the children to learn through fun activities, taking responsibility, working in teams, taking acceptable risks and thinking for themselves.
